Prayers for the Week, April 7th, 2013

mdod-prayers of the week

Hello, my friends, and welcome to this week’s Prayers for the Week post.  This will be an emotional day for my family today, as we say goodbye to Tommy today.  Tommy is just 3 months younger then Cindy, so this has hit her especially hard, in addition to the feelings of grief and loss that Debbie and Paula feel.  Please pray for their strength, comfort, and God’s Peace to all of the family that is hurting right now.

If you missed last week’s post, please go back and read it — it is the perfect example of why our prayers matter, because He is Risen!

Prayer Requests:

  • Prayers for God’s Peace and Strength on our family this morning. Tommy Gibbs passed away Thursday, April 4th, 2013. Please be with the family, especially his wife and other family as they deal with the grief and heartache of knowing that their husband/father/uncle/cousin is no longer with us. We all know that he is in a better place now, so the focus now shifts to the family left behind. Lift them up, please, as they struggle to move on, day by day, week by week, minute by minute, and remember that life does go on, even when we don’t think it ever could. Thanks, everyone. These requests mean so much more to me then you could ever know.
  • My friend Amanda needs some prayers for her little girl. Here is what she posted on Facebook:We recently found out that Kennedy has a Congenital Diaphgragmatic Hernia that went undiagnosed during my pregnancy. We met with an amazing surgeon today at our local children’s hospital. She’ll be having surgery soon. From what we’ve been told, she is our little miracle in that she is happy, thriving and otherwise healthy, which is not usually the case with this diagnoses. Please keep my brave little girl in your thoughts.
  • We would also like continued prayers for the little 4 year old boy and his family that were getting ready to start their cruise on Saturday, 3/30. The little boy nearly drowned, and I haven’t heard any update, so please keep them all in your prayers until we find out more information. Thanks.
  • Please pray for the family of Doris, who is a neighbor of mine.  She passed away last week after a long life, and while we are praising her life, we are still sad that she is gone.  Please pray for God’s Peace, strength, and comfort to all of the family that knew her best, that they may be comforted in the good memories they have of her.

Praises!

  • The first praise is for Tommy, who was led to have his re-baptism ceremony nearly three weeks ago.  Because he stood up for Jesus, Jesus is now standing up for Tommy, as it is written in Matthew Chapter 10, Verse 32:

Jesus said “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven.”

  • What started out as a prayer request was a praise by the end of the week!  Here is what was written for my good buddy Chad:“My friend Chad and his family need prayers to make sure the house they are looking at is the right house for them. Please pray for guidance for him and his family, that God would keep the door open for them if this is where He wants them to be, or that He would show them a better alternative if that is what He desires of them. Thanks!”

I know that there are probably a lot more prayer requests and praises then I listed here, but if there are, I can’t remember them.  Please keep our previous prayer requests in your thoughts, even though the week has moved on, doesn’t mean that the need is now gone.  Thanks for praying all of these prayers, and lifting up these praises, it means a lot to me, as it does to everyone else that has left a prayer request.

If you have any prayer requests you want to leave with us, please leave a comment here, or on our Facebook page, or via our “Contact Us” email form, and we will pray for you!

  1. Mike, I love this weekly feature! Thank you for reminding us that it God’s glory that gives up the ability to enjoy all things, including Disney! I also love the praise section. Too often, we only turn to God when we are in need but faith to praise for when things go well; this is a wonderful reminder to thank the Lord.

    • Thank you, Theresa! I love this series also because it reminds us of God’s Love for us, and uses the power of the Internet for good instead of evil like so much of it is.

  2. My dear friend Beth’s Grandma passed away. They are having the funeral today, April 8th. Please pray for the comfort and strength for the family as they deal with their loss, and for God’s Peace to descend upon them in the days and weeks ahead as they move on in their lives without their Grandma. Thanks!

  4. My friend Amanda has an update to her daughter’s diagnosis, so here it is:

    BIG UPDATE!!

The surgeon’s office just called and Kennedy does not have CDH (Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia), she has a Paraesophageal Hiatal Hernia. From what I’m understanding (and nursing friends feel free to correct me) her stomach has bulged through her diaphragm around her esophogus. They will be doing a nissen fundoplication (Huh?) laproscopically to repair the problem.

Surgery is set for 4/26 and she’ll be there at least a week. She’ll also be given a feeding tube which we’ll have to use for the first 6 weeks but will stay in for 2 months.

I’m not sure if this is good news because some of it sounds scarier than the original diagnoses.

Please pray for Kennedy, for her healing, pray for the skill of her medical team, that God would use them to cure Kennedy of this ailment, and please also pray for Kennedy and her family, that God would send his Peace, Strength, and Comfort to Kennedy and the family so that they will know that she is going to be okay. Thanks everyone!

  5. Please pray for my friend Jon’s Aunt, who has been battling health issues for years now, and who just had a spot detected on her lung. A biopsy has or will be performed, but no result has come back yet. Please pray for her comfort and healing, and pray for Jon and his family, who have had a rash of health troubles come upon their family in recent weeks. Please pray for their Peace, Strength, and Comfort depending on the outcome of this latest challenge.

  6. Lastly this week, my friend Mark from Facebook requests some prayers. Here is what he wrote:

I am not one who normally asks for prayers, however I just got some very bad news about a family member and their prognosis. Please send your thoughts and prayers to my family.

Please pray for healing for his family member, and for God’s Peace, Strength, and Comfort to descend upon the family in their time of trial. Also please pray for the salvation of the family and in particular for the one that is sick. Thank you.

  7. My dear friend Beth also needs prayers for her nephew Dustin. Here is what she wrote, please pray boldly for healing and a cure!

Please pray for Dustin. He was admitted to the hospital for IV fluids because he was sick. But he just woke up from a nap and things are not good. I don’t have a lot of details, but he has lost the use of one of his hands and there is something wrong with one of his eyes.

Lord, you know how much we can take, and it seems like time after time when we think things are better, something happens to those we love to remind us that our struggles are not quite over yet. Such is the case with young Dustin. You know what he needs, please give that to him as only You can do — and thank you for loving him and all of us. Use us to spread Your word to all of those that haven’t heard it yet, and use the miracle that is Dustin as one more powerful message to all of us that You are in control, and that we will survive because we have You in our lives. It is in the precious name of Jesus that we pray with Thanksgiving! Amen.
